Edwardsville Walgreen’s distribution center set to close, with the loss of hundreds of jobs

Approximately 400 jobs will be lost when the Walgreens e-commerce distribution center in Edwardsville closes later this summer.

A spokesperson for the company has confirmed the pending closure. In an official statement to the Illinois Business Journal, the company spokesperson noted:

“As we continue to transform our business into a consumer-centric healthcare company, we are focused on aligning our operational structure to best serve our patients and customers including how we use our network of stores to ship orders to our patients’ and customers’ homes. As a result, we have made the difficult decision to close our e-commerce distribution center in Edwardsville, Ill., later this summer resulting in the elimination of approximately 400 roles. We are grateful for the many contributions our team members at this facility have made and we are committed to supporting them during this transition.”

Other local media sources shared that City of Edwardsville Economic and Community Development Director James Arnold acknowledged Aug. 28 as the last day of operations for the Edwardsville center, located at 28 Gateway Commerce Center Drive West, and that Madison County Employment & Training stands ready to work with the displaced workers.
