New diagnostic tool helps Ameren Fleet Services keep vehicles on the road

When Ameren vehicles need attention, getting to the root of a problem quickly can make all the difference. That’s why Ameren Fleet Services recently added a new Snap-on diagnostic tool that is helping technicians identify and repair vehicle issues faster and more efficiently.

The handheld device plugs directly into a vehicle’s diagnostic port and communicates with key systems, including the engine, transmission and body control modules. The tool allows technicians to retrieve fault codes, identify malfunctioning components and gain valuable insight into a vehicle’s performance before beginning repairs.
For Fleet Services technicians, the upgraded technology is a significant improvement over older equipment. Previous diagnostic tools were no longer supported and could not fully communicate with many newer vehicles in Ameren’s fleet. The new system provides access to the latest vehicle platforms, helping technicians quickly pinpoint problems ranging from engine misfires and check-engine lights to wheel speed sensor failures and other complex issues.
While the tool helps identify where problems may exist, technicians still rely on their expertise to verify diagnoses, test components and complete repairs correctly. The technology simply gives them a faster, more accurate starting point.
“It’s a tremendous change,” said Ameren Illinois Fleet Services Technician Paul Harris. “The Snap-on tool is much quicker and easier to use. It gives us a direction right away and helps us start diagnosing the vehicle faster.”
By combining advanced diagnostic technology with the skills of Ameren’s Fleet Services team, the new tool is helping reduce downtime, improve repair efficiency and keep the vehicles that support Ameren’s operations safely on the road.
“This tool is a great example of how technology can enhance the work our skilled technicians do every day,” said Ameren Fleet Services Senior Manager Beth Daiber. “It provides faster, more accurate information, allowing our team to spend less time troubleshooting and more time completing quality repairs that keep our fleet moving.”
