Plocher-Spot-photo-Legacy   The third location of the Legacy Place Senior Living Community is under construction in Breese. Plocher Construction Co. is building the 54,000-square-foot facility that will also include a memory care wing.
Project manager Rachelle Lengermann says after constructing the Legacy Place communities in Highland and Waterloo, Plocher Construction is confident in its ability to complete this project under budget and on time for a late summer 2014 opening.
The new Legacy Place, located off Holy Cross Lane near St. Joseph’s Hospital, will be similar to the other two facilities, utilizing a wood frame structure, stone, brick, fiber cement siding, shingled roof and a cupola. Landscaped courtyards will add to the curbside appeal of the building.
Inside there will be 57 one- and two-bedroom apartments, 41 units devoted to assisted living residents and 16 units for memory care residents. Each unit will feature a kitchen, living area, bedroom, bathroom and a private patio. There will be five floor plans to choose from.
The overall facility will consist of a commercial kitchen, dining hall, offices for staff and nurses, laundry rooms, activity room, fitness area, theater, hair salons, a coffee lounge and several outdoor courtyards.
The memory care wing will offer one-on-one, 24-hour care for up to 18 patients, Lengermann says. It will be a secure wing with card access required for admittance. This wing will also connect to the main kitchen for ease of access. Memory care residents will have their own dining hall, hair salon, staff offices, a walled courtyard and walking path.
The Legacy Place main lobby will feature coffered ceilings with wood trim and a fireplace. Hurford Architects of Glen Carbon is the designer of all three locations.
Plocher Construction plans to use as many rapidly renewable, non-toxic, reusable and recyclable materials as possible, Lengermann said.  In addition to choosing green materials, the company will seek to reduce waste of energy, water and materials used during construction.
As it does on many projects, Plocher Construction will be self-performing the work for Legacy Place. The crew size, according to Lengermann, will peak at approximately 30 workers, 75 percent of whom are Plocher employees.
Kunkel Commercial Group, co-developer of the Legacy Place senior living communities, will soon begin marketing the new location and pre-leasing the units.
