Renae Coffman, Span Manager, Commerce Bank, Belleville

    For 21 years, Renae Coffman has worked in many areas of the banking industry.
    She has built her banking acumen through working in back office functions, fraud, as a teller, a personal banker and in management.
    Coffman joined Commerce Bank as a teller 11 years ago, and has been promoted several times throughout her career with Commerce. Most recently she was promoted to span manager and now oversees two branches in the Belleville area.
    “One aspect of my job that I enjoy is coaching employees and helping them advance within the company,” said Coffman. “At Commerce, I see a lot of women in leadership roles. More women are earning degrees and being inspired to move up within the organization. There are many opportunities for growth. I like to share what I’ve learned from my successes and help others experience their own successes here.”
    Coffman is currently part of the Belleville Leadership program and is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in business administration from McKendree University. She also serves as a member of the Belleville Main Street committee.
    As span manager for Commerce Bank, Coffman manages the Belleville East and West banking centers. She oversees all of the banking center activities, including business development and providing clients with financial solutions. At the banking centers, clients are assisted with all of their deposit, lending and investing needs. Commerce works with a wide array of clients, from personal accounts to small business banking as well as commercial clients.
    One product that Coffman highlighted from Commerce for businesses on the go is ROAMpay, which allows small businesses to utilize their mobile devices as tabletop terminals.
    Providing exemplary service is at the heart of Coffman’s business practice.
    “I want my clients to understand that doing business with Commerce Bank and my team of employees is not a quick one-stop. When someone banks with us, we get to know them so that we can understand their goals and help them achieve them.”
    When thinking about words of advice to share with other women aspiring to be successful in the industry, Coffman said, “Always work hard, never be afraid of a challenge, and push yourself to be confident. Get out of your comfort zone and try new things, and be sure to voice where you want your career to go so management knows how to help you get there.”
