Caritas Family Solutions recently announced that its CEO, Gary Huelsmann, has been nominated as a Community Changemaker for the 29th annual What’s Right with the Region Awards, led by FOCUS St. Louis.
This award recognizes individuals leading and inspiring change in their organization, community and region.
FOCUS St. Louis is a premier leadership development and civic engagement organization dedicated to preparing a diverse network of leaders to collaborate in building a thriving St. Louis community. Each year, it recognizes individuals, organizations and initiatives making a meaningful impact across the region through the What’s Right with the Region Awards.
FOCUS St. Louis President and CEO Dr. Yemi Akande-Bartsch further explained that the purpose of the award is to highlight those in the community working to make positive change.
“We all need a reminder now and again of the good that surrounds us, in the people and organizations who work tirelessly to make our region better,” said Dr. Akande-Bartsch. “For 29 years, the What’s Right with the Region Awards have been a celebration of that, and we’re just grateful to have the opportunity to shine a light on the incredible stories and impact of this year’s honorees.”
Huelsmann, who has served as the CEO of Caritas for more than 20 years, has successfully led the nonprofit human services agency through significant growth phases that increased the nonprofit’s ability to provide a wider array of services to those in need.
Caritas serves more than 6,500 individuals annually and has impacted the lives of more than 65,000 people over the last 13 years. Caritas Chief Development Officer Ashlee Lambert said this nomination is reflective of Huelsmann’s steadfast dedication to Caritas’ mission, which is focused on changing lives for the better.
“Guided by a deep belief in dignity, healing and hope, Gary leads with both heart and purpose, ensuring that every child, family or individual we serve receives the care, stability and love they deserve,” said Lambert. “His leadership is never about status or credit. It is about improving systems so they truly work for those who are most at risk and ensure that the support they need is always accessible, respectful and life-changing. We’re thrilled that he is receiving this well-deserved recognition.”
The 29th annual What’s Right with the Region Awards will be held starting at 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, at the Touhill Performing Arts Center at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
