Celebrating faith, academic excellence, and new leadership in East St. Louis:” Community invited to Open House from 1 to 4 p.m. on Feb. 1

Sister Thea Bowman Catholic School, the last remaining Catholic school in East St. Louis, invites prospective families, community members, and supporters to attend its Open House from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2026, at the school’s campus (8213 Church Lane).

The Open House offers families an opportunity to tour the school, meet faculty and staff, learn about academic programs, and explore how Sister Thea Bowman Catholic School nurtures the whole child through faith, learning, and community.

The event and the school are open to families of all faith traditions and will be catered by Big Mama’s BBQ.

Sister Thea Bowman Catholic School serves students from all-day kindergarten through grade 8, offering small class sizes, education through music and the arts, extended day programming, and income-based tuition. The school is fully accredited by the State of Illinois and the Diocese of Belleville and is home to award-winning Access Academies for grades 6–8, which provides pathways to private high school scholarships and continued academic success.

The Open House also marks a moment of transition and growth, as the school welcomes its new principal, Kenneth Nance Jr.. Under his leadership, the school continues its commitment to put families first and to “Ignite Excellence” through academic achievement, faith formation, and opportunity for students in and beyond East St. Louis.

“As the last Catholic school in East St. Louis, we remain a vital anchor for families seeking a values-centered education rooted in faith, high expectations, and care for the whole child,” shares Nance. “Our Open House is a chance to experience that mission firsthand.”
