New Cancer Institute to treat patients in Metro East region

Urology of St. Louis, the largest private urologic practice in St. Louis and the Metro East, has announced the development of Urology of St. Louis’ Cancer Institute. The Cancer Institute will be a new resource for those looking for specialized treatment for bladder, testicular, prostate and kidney cancer.

Fellowship-trained urologists Gregory Auffenberg, MD (right), and Seth Strope, MD (left), will be leading the new Cancer Institute and have 30 years of combined clinical cancer care knowledge.

Both doctors have extensive experience utilizing the latest cancer research and training to ensure positive outcomes for patients.

Auffenberg said their goal in developing the Cancer Institute is to create a dedicated team of urologic cancer experts committed to providing prompt and individualized care for patients through every stage of their cancer treatment and diagnosis.

“The journey for every patient starts at a place that can be anxiety-provoking, complex and scary,” said Auffenberg. “But it becomes a lot less scary for patients when there is a plan and there are tools that are used to navigate that journey. We started the Cancer Institute because it is extremely rewarding when we are able to help a patient and family navigate through that journey, find the right treatment plan and see them through it. Seeing their success is amazing and is the most rewarding part of our job.”

The Cancer Institute will provide cutting-edge cancer treatment options, connections to USL’s team of 30 highly-trained urologists and medical professionals and access to state-of-the-art lab test diagnostics. Dr. Stope said their hope is that the formation of the Cancer Institute will lead to better outcomes and treatment options for patients in the St. Louis and Metro East region.

“We want our patients to feel at ease knowing they can come and receive world-class cancer care in the St. Louis area,” said Strope. “Our expertise comes from staying up-to-date on the newest surgical techniques and treatment options, and dealing with a variety of cancer variations over time. We take pride in not only the expertise our team of doctors can offer at Urology of St. Louis, but also that we’ll be able to give patients integrated and specialized care closer to their home.”

The Cancer Institute will have clinics at USL’s Fairview Heights and the Walker Medical Building location in Chesterfield, Mo. Urologists at any of USL’s 21 locations will also be able to provide cancer care as part of the new institute.
