Crowe invites lawmakers, small businesses to discuss economic concerns in Metro East

EDWARDSVILLE – In an effort to allow local business owners to voice economic concerns to state lawmakers, state Senator Rachelle Crowe, D-Glen Carbon, will host a subject matter hearing in the Senate Tourism & Hospitality Committee on Thursday at Buckminster Fuller Dome on Southern Illinois University’s campus in Edwardsville.

“While nearly every industry has faced unique challenges over the last year and a half, our state’s tourism and hospitality businesses have suffered extensively,” Crowe said. “With Illinois expected to enter Phase 5 on Friday, it’s critical that lawmakers speak with local business owners to learn how we can help them recover from pandemic-related losses.”

The committee is scheduled to hear testimony from representatives with the Bella Vista Winery in Maryville, Great Rivers & Routes Tourism, AltonWorks, the Gateway Convention Center in Collinsville, Alfresco Performing Arts Center in Granite City, Leadership Council Southwestern Illinois, Breakthru Beverage in Belleville, and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

The event begins at 2 p.m. The address is 81 Circle Drive, Edwardsville.
