Alton Main Street plans annual Chili Cook-Off

The annual Downtown Alton Chili Cook-Off, sponsored by Alton Main Street, will be held Saturday, Oct. 19, from noon until 3 p.m.  on the Mississippi riverfront next to Argosy Casino.

Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for kids 10 and under, on sale now at the Alton Visitors Center, 200 Piasa St. in Alton. Tickets will also be available at the door.

The Chili Cook-Off pits amateur and professional chefs  in a fiery competition. Teams are being accepted through Oct. 11. Visit the Events page of www.DowntownAlton.com to download a registration form.

Judges will award $100 prizes to winners in four categories: individuals, organizations, businesses and restaurants. Attendees will vote for their favorite recipe, and the team chosen as “People’s Choice” will receive the coveted silver ladle plaque and bragging rights of the best chili in town. There will also be a $100 prize for the best-decorated booth. Live rock music will be provided by The Wherehouse Project Band. Beverages and desserts will be available for purchase.

Funds raised will support the organization’s ongoing efforts to improve and promote Downtown Alton.
