Illinois Division of United Way names banker as campaign chair
Phil Hickman, president of the Southern Illinois/St. Louis Metro East market of Associated Bank, has been named the 2018 campaign chair for the Illinois Division of United Way of Greater St. Louis.
“Having been a supporter of United Way for nearly three decades, I understand the importance of United Way to not just our smaller communities, but to the vitality of the St. Louis region as a whole,” said Hickman. “United Way’s support of health and human services and programs is critical to making the communities where we live and work better for all.”
Hickman, of Belleville, has more than 35 years of experience in banking and financial services and is currently responsible for the executive management, strategic direction, growth, profitability and overall leadership for Associated Bank in the Southern Illinois and Metro East region. In addition, he helps guide strategy and initiatives for community markets throughout Associated Bank’s footprint. He is a member of the American Bankers Association and Illinois Bankers Association. Hickman holds his bachelor’s degree from Ohio State University and a master’s in Business Administration from Capital University.
In addition to his work with United Way’s Illinois Division, Hickman also serves on the board of directors for United Way of Greater St. Louis. He is also a board member for the Leadership Council of Southwest Illinois and the Alzheimer’s Association – St. Louis Chapter and serves on the economic development committee of the Greater Belleville Area Chamber of Commerce. He also serves as an executive committee member and chair of the finance and sustainability committee of East Side Aligned.
United Way’s Illinois Division serves the counties of Clinton, Monroe, Randolph and St. Clair and helped more than 140,000 people in these counties in 2017. The Illinois Division’s community campaign, which supports 30 local health and human service organizations, kicks off with an annual golf tournament on September 6.
Dr. Mark S. Wrighton, chancellor of Washington University, and Jeff Fox, chairman and CEO of Harbour Group, will serve as co-chairs of the 2018 United Way of Greater St. Louis campaign.
