Open house set at Maryland Moats Lexow Insurancy agency in Granite City
The newly remodeled offices for Maryland Moats Lexow Insurance Agency will be opened to the public from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at 2166 Pontoon Road in Granite City.
Christy Lexow (shown) acquired the agency from Ken Moats, who retired in February 2017 after more than 30-plus years in the business.
Maryland Moats Lexow offers policies for auto, home, business, workmen’s compensation, general liability and more, serving as a brokerage working with more than 30 insurance carriers.
Lexow owned C. Lexow Insurance Advisers Ltd. for 11 years, before the opportunity arose to buy Moats’ business. Moats reached out to her through a mutual acquaintance, she said. She was a longtime member of the Lexow Financial Group, her family’s insurance and financial advisory businesses in Edwardsville.
During a six-month substantial renovation of the Moats location, Lexow discovered some unique history, including a window and historic glass blocks that no one knew existed prior to the removal of a wall.
Lexow and her staff — who stayed aboard following the acquisition — have added a number of personal touches to the office, including some antiques and hand-crafted extras, among them a chalk-board painted Corvair hood with messages for visitors.
Lexow said she will also have on display her 1968 Ford F100 short bed, side-step pickup truck (like the one in “Back to the Future”), which she has been restoring. Other class cars of customers will be on display, she said, and the neighboring street will be closed off for that part of the event.
The event is going to be catered by Edison’s and there will be a bounce house available for the kids.
