Beall Mansion honored as a ‘green’ lodging choice
ALTON — Beall Mansion has for the second year in a row been accepted as a Bronze level GreenLeader into the TripAdvisor GreenLeaders program.
Designees have met a set of environmental standards developed by an environmental consulting firm, with input from partners including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star program, the U.S. Green Building Council, and the United Nations Environment Programme.
According to Jenny Rushmore, director of responsible travel at TripAdvisor, “GreenLeaders are leading the hospitality industry in making efforts to improve their environmental footprint. We greatly applaud these accommodations and are pleased to share their eco-friendly practices with our online audience of more than 260 million travelers who visit (TripAdvisor.com) each month.”
Jim and Sandy Belote, co-owners of The Beall Mansion, which bills itself as “An Elegant Bed & Breakfast Inn, said it is an honor to be among the few St. Louis area lodging options to achieve GreenLeaders status.
“It demonstrates that with a lot of hard work – even historic properties with their many extra challenges – can be green,” Sandy Belote said.
In February the Belotes won Lincoln Award gold medals at the Illinois Governor’s Conference on Excellence on Travel and Tourism. In May they received a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence for the fourth year in a row.
About The Beal Mansion
The mansion was built in 1903 by Z. B. Job as a wedding gift for his son and his son’s bride. It later became the residence of Edmond Beall – four-time mayor of Alton, senator, and co-founder of Beall Brothers Manufacturing.
The Belotes purchased the property in December 1996. In 1998 they opened to the public as a bed and breakfast and venue for wedding & receptions and small corporate meetings and retreats.
Guest rooms feature a triple sheeted feathered bed, hardwood floors, oriental rugs, and private bathroom with whirlpool “Jacuzzi” for two or claw foot tub. Property amenities include complementary Wi-Fi, 24-hour hot beverage service , and their famous 24-hour “all you can eat” chocolate buffet, and choice of continental or gourmet breakfast each morning.
The Beall Mansion is located in the Middletown Historic District of Alton.
