Regional Pulse: AgeSmart C.A.R.E.S. program supports employees caring for aging loved ones

AgeSmart Community Resources recently announced the launch of C.A.R.E.S. (Caring Assistance, Resources, and Education Services), a groundbreaking program now available to employers within AgeSmart’s seven-county service area.
C.A.R.E.S. is designed to empower businesses with the tools and support they need to assist employees who are balancing work with the responsibility of caring for an aging family member.
“Employers understand that personal challenges can affect workplace productivity and morale,” says Marjorie Moore, CEO at AgeSmart. “The C.A.R.E.S. program directly addresses one of the most pressing—and often invisible—issues facing today’s workforce: elder caregiving.”
Through C.A.R.E.S., participating employers can offer their employees a comprehensive suite of resources, including:
Expert advice and education on aging-related issues- Access to support groups and caregiver communities
- One-on-one guidance through AgeSmart’s caregiver support
- Customizable workshops and informational materials for workplace wellness programs
Benefits to employers include:
- Reduces absenteeism and burnout
- Improves retention and loyalty
- Boosts focus and morale
- Strengthens workplace culture
The program is designed to be easily integrated into existing employee assistance initiatives, and flexible enough to meet the unique needs of employers large and small.
“I would highly recommend the C.A.R.E.S. program to other business leaders. I found so many employees are caregivers for loved ones and often feel torn between their loved one and their job. Our Caregiver Specialist provided support and resources for our team members, contributing to less stress and greater ability to engage at work. The program was a great way to show our team that we value them,” said Kathy Federico of Jack Schmitt Family of Dealerships.
With nearly 1 in 4 American workers acting as a caregiver to an older adult, AgeSmart’s C.A.R.E.S. program arrives at a crucial time when demand for eldercare support is on the rise.
