As interest in home protection plans soars, Hoffmann Brothers adds new, affordable option

Hoffmann Brothers survey reveals need for non-maintenance based home protection plan
Nationwide, more people than ever are paying monthly membership fees to protect their HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and appliances. This comes as new equipment costs have risen over the past few years and uncertainty about future costs is driving a desire to repair rather than replace appliances and systems.
This month, Hoffmann Brothers, a home services provider in St. Louis for 37 years, and in Nashville for five years, is expanding its home protection offering with a second, more affordable option called the Essential Home Protection Plan. This entry-level membership offers customers valuable benefits like priority service and discounts across all home service offerings, at a lower price point. It’s an alternative to the company’s Signature Home Protection Plan, which includes twice annual HVAC maintenance visits.
“Last year we surveyed our current Home Protection Plan members and many customers said they wanted faster service and savings across all of our services, but didn’t necessarily need annual maintenance,” said Chris Hoffmann, CEO of Hoffmann Brothers. “The Essential Plan is our response to that feedback. It’s just one more way we’re listening and evolving to meet the needs of the homeowners we serve.”
Nearly 20,000 homeowners are currently enrolled in Hoffmann’s Signature Plan starting at $36 per month. With the new $15 Essential Plan offering core benefits like priority service and discounts, the company anticipates rapid growth of its membership base.
“One of the most common calls we get is for a plumbing issue, whether it’s a leak, no hot water, or a clogged drain. Without a plan, homeowners can be stuck waiting days for help,” Hoffmann said. “It’s in those moments that having priority service really matters. No one should have to go without water or wait for service when faced with an urgent need. We created this plan to make sure help is available when our customers need it most.”
In a 2023 nationwide survey, homeowners reported that the most common systems experiencing breakdowns included HVAC (24%), washer/dryer (21%), and indoor plumbing and fixtures (21%).
Overall, home protection plans and home warranties are in growth mode. The U.S. home warranty industry was valued at $3.9 billion in 2023, with an average annual growth rate of 3.4 percent from 2018 to 2023. This means the industry expanded at a faster pace than the overall economy during this five-year period.
Homeowners are increasingly aware that replacing or repairing major home systems and appliances can be costly, potentially reaching thousands of dollars. According to Angi, households spent an average of $4,000 on maintenance and emergency repairs in 2023. Protection plans and home warranties play an important role in mitigating these costs.
While home warranties are typically offered by national companies and may cover repair or replacement costs after deductibles and lengthy claims processes, they often leave homeowners waiting. In contrast, Hoffmann Brothers’ protection plans are local, straightforward, and service-focused. Members receive a 15 percent discount on repairs, a reduced service fee, and fast scheduling with trusted, in-house technicians — no third-party contractors or red tape.
