Metro East Humane Society (MEHS) is hosting its fundraiser calendar contest, with entries and voting open from June 22 through Aug. 10, 2026.

This contest has a set fundraising goal of $15,000 to continue MEHS’s mission of improving animal welfare in the St. Louis Metro East region.

The MEHS Calendar Contest allows pet owners to enter their best pet photos for a chance to win one of 13 spots in the 2027 MEHS Calendar.

Pet entries are $10 and the community can vote on their favorite pet photos for $1 per vote.

Those who want to guarantee a spot for their pet in the calendar can reserve a day such as a “Gotcha Day” or Birthday for $10, first come first served.

Additionally, businesses can sponsor a month for $250 and with only 12 sponsorship spots available. Send an email [email protected] if you are interested.

MEHS’s primary programs to support its mission include:

  • Animal adoption: MEHS opens its doors to stray animals and pets surrendered by their owners, giving each one a second chance at a loving home. Every animal receives a comprehensive health assessment, temperament testing, and any necessary medical care before becoming available for adoption. Prior to placement, all animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and fully vaccinated. In 2025, MEHS found forever homes for over 1,500 pets.

  • Low-cost veterinary services: Recognizing that cost should never be a barrier to pet ownership, MEHS offers low-cost spay/neuter services to residents in their service area three days a week. Additionally, MEHS offers the public low-cost vaccine and microchip clinics throughout the year. Just last year, over 2,600 community-owned pets were served through the public spay/neuter and vaccine clinics that MEHS offers.

  • Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program: MEHS takes a compassionate approach to managing feral cat populations through its TNR program. Feral cats are humanely trapped, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped before being returned to their colonies. This program enabled MEHS to TNR nearly 586 feral cats throughout Madison County in the last year. This allows them to live out their lives in their natural environment while preventing further overpopulation.

  • Humane education sessions: MEHS provides educational programs on animal care and humane issues to local schools, churches, and other community organizations.
