United States Attorney’s Office to honor Jerseyville veteran as Hometown Hero

FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. – In celebration of Memorial Day and the nation’s upcoming 250th birthday, the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Illinois and U.S. Attorney Steven D. Weinhoeft will recognize Robert “Bob” Gill, 99, from Jerseyville, for his extensive service to our country. Gill has been named as the recipient of the Hometown Hero Award.

Over the course of his 30-year military career, Gill served the United States in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam.

Gill’s lifetime of extraordinary service is an inspiration to communities across Southern Illinois and throughout the nation.

Chief Master Sergeant Gill will be honored at an award ceremony held at the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Illinois on Thursday, May 21, 2026, starting at 1 p.m.
