O’Fallon Public Works announces State Street partial closure later in May

The O’Fallon Public Works Department will be closing State Street between Highway 50 and Obernuefemann Road beginning on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

The road will be closed to perform pavement repairs.

Drivers will have a marked detour route on Highway 50 and Obernuefemann and are required to use this route or recommended to find other unmarked routes.

Work is expected to be completed by Friday, June 19, 2026, weather permitting.

This closure is in conjunction with the asphalt resurfacing of State Street from the CSX Railroad tracks to and including the State and Obernuefemann Roundabout and then north on Obernuefemann near the intersection with Carriageway Lane.

Ogle Road will also be resurfaced with this project.

Delays and additional closures will occur in these sections throughout the duration of the project and will be communicated closer to the actual work dates.

The entire project is expected to be completed by Aug. 4, 2026.

For more information, contact the O’Fallon Public Works Department at (618) 624-4500, ext. 3.

While doing this project, which is much needed. I and others would like where the railroad tracks are, to have yellow stripes just before crossing the tracks to show lanes which both sides of traffic should be in. I am always being pushed for those coming over and in my side of the road. Even police cars do this. Just saying. This is not a hard fix to paint stripes that are much needed. It might even help to keep people from having accidents with the railroad crossing big metal pieces. Thats an ongoing problem over the years.
Please accept this as a help, not a angry complaint.
Thank you for being able to voice this.
This has been a main road for 34 yrs now while living here.
