The Salvation Army of Greater St. Louis distributes toys to over 8,200 children

More toys needed to meet increased demand at Angel Tree Toy Town

Every holiday season, countless families face the heartbreaking reality of being unable to provide gifts for their children. For many parents and guardians, Christmas becomes a time of worry instead of joy. Yet this same season offers a powerful opportunity for community members to step in, lift burdens, and spark hope—simply by purchasing a toy for a child in need.

This year, The Salvation Army of Greater St. Louis is making Christmas brighter for over 8,200 children in need in St. Louis City and County alone. This is a 26 percent year-over-year increase in families requesting and qualifying for Christmas assistance, likely due to increased economic challenges and the tornadoes that ravaged the region just months ago.

The Salvation Army has been collecting toys since their Christmas in July campaign, and through early December, to ensure they have enough to support the increased number of families and children. However, roughly 4,800 additional toys are still needed and The Salvation Army is calling on the community for support, and to help fill the gap.

There’s still time to give. Toys can be donated in-person from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at:

  • The Salvation Army – Midland Division Headquarters, 1130 Hampton Ave., St. Louis, MO 63139
  • The Airway Center, 10634 St Charles Rock Rd, St Ann, MO 63074

If you’re unable to donate in-person, visit salarmy.us/stlangeltree to view online gift wishlists or make a monetary donation.

Toy Town provides parents and guardians with the dignified opportunity to hand-select items for their children at no cost and put gifts under the tree, which otherwise, might not have been possible. In addition to Christmas gifts, each child will receive one free admission ticket to the National Museum of Transportation, thanks to the museum’s generosity and commitment to education and adventure.

Parents and guardians are also provided with food vouchers to help lessen the financial burden and ensure they can prepare a traditional Christmas meal for their families.

Additionally, dollars raised as part of The Salvation Army’s annual Red Kettle Campaign support critical social services, right here in the St. Louis community, all year round. Ninety cents of every dollar donated goes directly to services.
