TWM presents scholarship at SIUE’s first surveying students awards luncheon

TWM Inc., a leading engineering and geospatial firms in the greater St. Louis area, recently announced that Chief Operating Officer and Director of Geospatial Services Derek Twente, PLS, EI, presented the TWM Impact Partners Surveying and Geomatics Award to student Dysen Miller at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s inaugural Surveying Students Awards Luncheon.

The event was held from 12:30 to 2 p.m. on Oct. 24, 2025, in the Hickory/Hackberry Room of the Morris University Center on the SIUE campus.

The luncheon “celebrated the tremendous growth of SIUE’s Surveying and Geomatics program, made possible through the support of the Surveying and Geomatics Development Campaign donors and the Professional Advisory Board. Thanks to their generosity and outreach, program enrollment grew from eight students last year to 27 this year—a 338 percent increase. Additionally, another 46 students have enrolled in the Surveying Minor as part of their Civil Engineering, Construction Management, and Mechanical Engineering studies,” the official announcement noted.

“It’s an honor to support the next generation of surveying professionals,” said Twente. “TWM believes deeply in the power of community and mentorship. Programs like this help shape the future of our industry and we’re excited to be part of guiding that journey for Dysen as he begins his career.”

Serena Page, PE, PLS

In addition to the award presentation, Serena Page, PE, PLS, Executive Committee director of Illinois Professional Land Surveyors’ Association (IPLSA) and TWM’s Peoria branch manager/director of Water Infrastructure Services, served as a keynote speaker, sharing insights about the profession’s innovations like LiDAR and UAV mapping, which make this an exciting time to be a surveyor. She also highlighted the powerful partnership between IPLSA and SIUE, an initiative that’s creating real pathways for students to connect with professionals, gain hands-on experience, and confidently step into their surveying careers.

The $1,000 TWM Impact Partners Award is presented to a student who demonstrates academic excellence, leadership potential, and a commitment to advancing the surveying and geomatics profession. The luncheon offers young surveyors an opportunity to be recognized for their achievements and to connect with local firms like TWM that are deeply invested in advancing the surveying profession.
