Next Sierra Club Speaker Series presentation set for Jan. 14 in Alton
The next presentation in the Sierra Club Speaker Series takes place at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2025.
The in-person only event will be held at Old Bakery Beer Co., 400 Landmarks Blvd., Alton, IL 62002.
The community is invited to join in for the free evening screening of an award-winning film presentation: “Water for Life / Agua es Vida.” The film tells the story of three extraordinary individuals: Berta Cáceres, a leader of the Lenca people in Honduras; Francisco Pineda, a subsistence farmer in El Salvador; and Alberto Curamil, an Indigenous Mapuche leader in Chile, all of whom refused to let government-supported industry and transnational corporations take their water and redirect it to mining, hydroelectric projects or large-scale agriculture.
Attendees are encouraged to come early and meet the presenter and to purchase dinner and drinks to enjoy while in the meeting room at Old Bakery for the Sierra Club Speaker Series presentation.
