Hi-Pointe Drive-In officially opened its first Illinois location Thursday afternoon in O’Fallon.
The new location is at 630 W. Highway 50 and, consistent with other locations, will be open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
Hi-Pointe also operates in Downtown St. Louis and Kirkwood. The chain is known for its all-Angus patty burgers, sandwiches, and shakes, and hand-cut fries.
The new, 3,100-square-foot restaurant is near State Street, O’Fallon Family Sports Park and O’Fallon Township High School. The interior and exterior mirror the same look of the other locations with bold red and yellow colors, a subtle nod to ketchup and mustard, neon lights, and eclectic decorative pieces.
Jackie Roach is the new franchise owner of Hi-Pointe Drive-In O’Fallon. The concept’s partners are Charlie Downs, Mike Johnson, and Ben Hillman.
“I’ve worked with Charlie and Carolyn Downs for about 18 years. Nearly six years ago, Charlie casually nudged me to open a Hi-Pointe,” said Roach. “I love Hi-Pointe and took the suggestion seriously. O’Fallon is one of the fastest-growing areas in Metro East. Our family calls O’Fallon home, and we want more businesses coming over to this side of the river. I’m excited to make Hi-Pointe an integral part of the community.”
Chef Shaylei Lanham will lead the kitchen, and Angie Hemmell will take on the role of general manager. Hi-Pointe O’Fallon will have the same menu as the other locations, with signature items such as the Smash Burger, Frisco Melt and Cheesesteak.
Guests can call, order online, or use the Hi-Pointe app on their phones to place an order for pickup at the drive-up window. Every dish is served fresh and made-to-order. The Hi-Pointe ordering system provides real-time text updates.
“We’ve been looking to open our first Illinois location for years, and it’s been a process but the time is finally here,” says chef and owner Mike Johnson, the man also behind the area’s Sugarfire Smokehouse. “We are super stoked.”
The Hi-Pointe O’Fallon opened the same day that Johnson headed to South Carolina to compete in the World Food Championship after winning the title of best burger in the world in November 2021.
Hi-Pointe O’Fallon has a week of festivities planned with local partners to rally its fans and the community. The grand opening Thursday evening included the drum corps from O’Fallon’s “Marching Panthers.” Some 25 percent of all Hi-Pointe sales from the evening are being donated back to the ensemble. Other specials for the week include a calzone burger collaboration with Flamentco Pizza; a crunch wrap with Nitro Salsa; a special donut with Wood Bakery; a charcuterie burger with Boarding House Bistro; a sandwich with Eckert’s and a pizza-inspired item with Peel Wood-Fired Pizza.
