Laundromats, others partner with city of Belleville on ‘Suds of Love’ event
The city of Belleville’s General and Community Assistance Office will host its second Suds of Love event, Wednesday, Jan. 22, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Best Wash Laundromat, 6323 W. Main St.
The event is free to individuals or families who need assistance accessing laundry services. Participants are eligible to use up to two standard capacity machines per family or individual or one high capacity machine at no cost to them. Detergent and fabric softener are available if needed, or participants can bring their own.
“We launched our first Suds of Love event in December, and it was very helpful for people who might not have the resources to regularly launder their clothing,” said Leander Spearman, interim director of Community Development. “But we couldn’t host this without the support of our other great community organizations and donors who make this possible.”
Spearman said that this event is made possible by a partnership between the General and Community Assistance Office, Beacon Ministry, and the Community Development Network.
Spearman said that the group intends to continue to offer Suds of Love laundry days and will continue to partner with its east-end laundromat, Belleville East Laundromat, 1008 Carlyle Ave., in addition to Best Wash Laundromat on the west end to make it more accessible to people across the entire community.
