IMPACT Strategies, Wellness Center, Senior Services Plus, Alton
By RITA DUCKWORTH IMPACT Strategies Inc. is the general contractor for the Senior Services Plus Wellness Center expansion project currently under construction in Alton.
The project is an addition to the existing campus for the non-profit organization. Senior Services Plus is a United Way agency that works to enrich the lives of older adults in the community. It provides programs and services that encourage independent living for seniors.
The project is the result of vision, fund-raising events, and generous private donations to the nonprofit organization. Recently, a donor offered to match any donation dollar for dollar up to $400,000.
Mike Voss is IMPACT’s project manager for the project. The addition will add close to 10,000 square feet to the existing campus. The new space will include an indoor track, fitness rooms, restrooms, and office space for support staff. “The new fitness addition,” explains Voss, “will provide increased capacity for Senior Services Plus to serve the needs of the community and patrons.”
The fitness addition is a single-story, pre-engineered metal structure. The exterior is composed of masonry veneer, insulated metal panels, and aluminum storefront. The interior is largely composed of painted exposed metal structure, painted drywall, and sport flooring.
“Senior Services Plus has also taken steps to improve campus access and parking,” says Voss. “Site improvements include expanded parking areas and new site lighting. A rainwater retention feature has also been incorporated on-site for horticultural activities.”
IMPACT Strategies, based in Fairview Heights, is working with two other local design firms on the project. The Farnsworth Group Inc. (formerly EWR), also of Fairview Heights, provided the architectural design. Alton’s Sheppard, Morgan & Schwaab Inc. provided civil engineering services.
“We broke ground on July 9,” says Voss. “We’re on schedule and expect to meet our target completion date for the end of this year.”
