Stuart to host free state tax income seminar

To help constituents save more on their state income taxes after the start of the new year, state Rep. Katie Stuart, D-Edwardsville, is hosting a state income tax credits seminar on Friday, Jan. 5, from 11 a.m. to noon at the Main Street Community Center, located at 1003 N. Main St. in Edwardsville.

stuart katie square“Although the new federal tax plan will be a cause of concern for many people, I want to ensure that our middle-class families are keeping as much of their hard-earned money as they can when it comes time to pay their state income taxes,” said Stuart. “Every dollar counts, and I want to make sure that no one is missing out on any exemptions they may be eligible for.”

Stuart will be joined by Carol Portman, president of the Taxpayers’ Federation of Illinois, and Ralph Martire, executive director of the Center for Tax and Budget Accountability, to discuss exemptions and cost-saving tax credits that are available for eligible taxpayers.

“The federal tax plan that will slash taxes for millionaires and billionaires while eliminating tax deductions for middle-class families is one of the many reasons why hosting an income tax seminar centered on state tax savings is so important,” Stuart said. “I will continue to fight for our families in the Metro East by speaking out against policies that harm our hard working citizens, and hosting seminars such as this to help people save as much as they can.”
