Commerce Bank’s Metro East region president retires, successor named

BELLEVILLE – Commerce Bank has announced that Harlan “Skip” Ferry, Jr., president for the Metro East region, has retired as of April 30, and Matthew Gomric has been named to fill the role.

ferry harlandFerry has been responsible for the bank’s sales, business development and relationship management in the region. In his role, Ferry oversaw commercial banking offices in Belleville, Edwardsville, Shiloh and Columbia, as well as supporting relationships with businesses throughout Southwestern Illinois.

Ferry’s career in banking started in 1976, and he has served as market president for Commerce since 2008. Before joining Commerce, Ferry was an executive vice president with Regions Bank in St. Louis. He holds graduate degrees from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin and the University of Oklahoma’s ABA National Commercial Lending School. Ferry is a member of the board for the Leadership Council of Southwestern Illinois, the Belleville School District Foundation and the Southwestern Illinois College Foundation.

“I am grateful to have worked with such inspiring business owners and team members over the years,” said Ferry. “This region has a lot to be proud of, and I look forward to continuing to help it grow.” Ferry will serve on Commerce’s Metro East advisory board.

gomric mattLike Ferry, Gomric (right) is based in the Belleville office. He is responsible for business development and relationship management, drawing on Commerce’s full line of banking, borrowing and treasury management solutions for business clients. His team includes Richard Ringwald and Benjamin Wanless, relationship managers supporting commercial banking clients throughout the region.

Gomric started his career with Mercantile Bank of St. Louis in 1998, where he completed an executive credit training program. He has spent the last 19 years as a credit analyst and commercial banker in Southwestern Illinois. Gomric joined Commerce in March of 2016. He received his Bachelors of Arts degree in economics from Washington University in St. Louis and is a graduate of the Southwest Madison County Leadership Program. Active in the community, Gomric is a member of the Leadership Council of Southwestern Illinois and serves on the Mid America Workforce Investment Board No. 24, on the board of directors for the Southwest Madison County Chamber and Southwestern Illinois College Foundation and as an Auxiliary Board Member for the United Way.
