Store associates and others mark the 30th anniversary of the Sam’s Club in O’Fallon.
O’FALLON — The O’Fallon-Shiloh Chamber of Commerce recently cut a ribbon to help the local Sam’s Club formally celebrate its 30th anniversary.
The store at 1350 West Highway 50 in O’Fallon has increased by almost 40,000 square feet since its original opening. It has added meat, bakery, deli, optical, pharmacy, and in-club photo printing.
“Sam’s Club has been such a great community partner and Chamber Supporter – for 30 years. We were thrilled to honor their 30th anniversary with a ribbon cutting,” said Chamber Executive Director Debbie Arell-Martinez.
The staff has grown from 120 to 225 associates. There are currently five associates at the location who have been here since the opening. The starting pay in 1987 was $5 per hour; now it’s $10.50.
In 1987, there were 72 clubs nationwide; now there are more than 600.
Sam’s Club O’Fallon is active in the community, awarding $15,000 per year in community grants and donations and donating to at least 26 truckloads per year to the St. Louis Food Bank.
