Selsius workshops reveal the mysteries of welding
GRANITE CITY – Selsius Corporate & Career Training at Southwestern Illinois College is bringing back its popular Welding for the Average Joe workshop, followed by Welding the Next Step — Beyond Average.
“It’s extremely empowering for someone to learn how to weld,” instructor Gailyn Cornell said. She’s taught everyone from preteens to those in their seventies.
Welding for the Average Joe introduces the most common forms of welding and provides the basic training needed to weld safely and effectively. It is scheduled for Saturdays, Sept. 24 and Oct. 1 and 8. The deadline to sign up is Sept. 17.
Welding the Next Step — Beyond Average builds on those skills, focusing on higher-level techniques, machine setup, metallurgy, oxy-fuel equipment and TIG welding. It will be held Saturdays, Oct. 22 and 29 and Nov. 5. The deadline to sign up is Oct. 14.
Both workshops will be held at the Sam Wolf Granite City Campus, 4950 Maryville Road, from 8 a.m. to noon. Each workshop is $99, which includes the use of gloves, safety glasses and helmets.
