WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rep. Mike Bost, R-Murphysboro, is congratulating Southwestern Illinois College in Belleville for receiving the 2015 Newman’s Own grant of $30,000 for its Kid’s Club program.
“This creative and unique program benefits our military men and women in Southern Illinois wanting to continue their education by providing free childcare services while they’re in school,” said Bost. “Children of military students will participate in high quality, research-based programs while their parents attend college classes to advance their career prospects. The program also provides family events and parenting workshops on campus.”
The award was presented Tuesday to SWIC at the Pentagon by Gen. Martin Dempsey, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and representatives of Newman’s Own, the Fisher House Foundation and Military Times, the sponsors of the annual competition, which seeks to reward ingenuity for programs that benefit servicemen and their families.
