The Illinois Department of Transportation says the bridge carrying Marine Road over Interstate 70 will be closed for nearly a month beginning Monday, July 13.
Marine Road is a leg of Illinois Route 143. The closure will be just east of the town of Marine and west of Highland.
The closure will be necessary to perform bridge joint replacement and waterproofing. A marked detour will be in place directing traffic around the closure using westbound U.S. 40 to northbound Illinois Route 4 to eastbound Illinois Route 143 and vice versa.
The work is expected to be completed by Aug. 14. Motorists should consider alternate routes to avoid delays, watch for workers and use caution when travelling in the work zone, IDOT said.
The contractor on this project is Kilian/Keeley Joint Venture of Mascoutah. Questions regarding the project may be directed to John Scheibal, the area supervising field engineer for IDOT in the area, (618) 346-3353.
