Saales to receive care award from Riverbend Head Start
ALTON – A Brighton couple will be honored for their community service at the 22nd annual Circle of Care Award Dinner at the Commons at Lewis and Clark Community College on Thursday, May 14, at 5:30 p.m.
Riverbend Head Start and Family Services Board of Directors Chairman Dave Braasch announced Thursday evening Steve and Jane Saale will be presented with the award this spring. He made the announcement at the non-profit’s reception honoring its giving societies’ members.
The Saales are well-known for supporting missions that impact at-risk children, beautify the Riverbend area and promote local businesses. Riverbend Head Start & Family Services, Pride, Inc., United Way, the Riverbend Growth Association, are among several of the organizations they have strengthened through their consistent delivery of time, talent and treasure. Jane is also the president of the Lewis and Clark Community College Foundation Board and they both attend Godfrey First United Methodist Church.
Steve and Jane both have ties to locally family-run businesses. Steve retired from Saale Bros, Appliance in 2006. The company started in 1946 and was third-generation family owned. Jane is the president and chief executive officer of Cope Plastics, Inc., which is headquartered in the Alton area and also was founded in 1946. Cope Plastics, Inc. is ranked in the top 150 privately held companies, and ranked 5th largest women-owned business in the St. Louis metro area, as published by the St. Louis Business Journal.
The Saales join a list of esteemed leaders who have received the Circle of Care award for their spirit of caring about the community. The event will be planned by a committee of their friends, family and colleagues.
Proceeds from the Circle of Care Award Dinner benefit the mission of Riverbend Head Start & Family Services, a 98-year-old non-profit organization that operates the federal Head Start and Early Head Start programs in Madison County.
Head Start provides unduplicated early childhood education and family strengthening services to over 1,000 children, age 5 and under, and their caregivers. Families who qualify for the programs live below the federal poverty line. The goal of the programs is to prepare children for kindergarten and enrich the lives of their families.
