BETHALTO – Riverbend 9-12, a grassroots group encouraging effective government and protection of freedoms, is holding a public presentation Thursday on the Illinois Convention of States Project.
The event is at 6 p.m. at the Bethalto Senior Citizen Building (across from the Police and Fire departments on Central Avenue).
Vickie Deppe, legislative liaison, and Despina Batson will be presenting the program.
The Convention of States Project is a non-partisan, grassroots movement to rein in the federal government and restore states’ rights granted by the Constitution. The effort cites Article V, allowing delegations from two-thirds (34) of the states to propose Constitutional amendments, such as, a balanced budget and term limits. These proposed amendments then would have to be ratified by three-fourths of the states.
