SIUE 2014 Project Management Symposium registration under way

EDWARDSVILLE – Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s School of Business has opened registration for its 2014 Project Management Symposium.

The event is 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, at the Morris University Center on the SIUE campus. The annual one-day event focuses on cultivating the art and science of project management.

Project management professionals from more than 120 different companies in the St. Louis metropolitan area will participate.

The day will open with Larry Sicking, project manager of Phillips 66, on “Project Management Perspectives: Lessons Learned from the Phillips 66 Wood River Refinery Expansion Project.”

Headlining the closing session is Brigadier Gen. John E. Michel, U.S. Air Force. The presentation is “Mediocre Me: How Saying No to the Status Quo will Propel You from Ordinary to Extraordinary.”

Hour-long morning and afternoon breakout sessions will provide a range of topic choices. Breakout sessions are led by area project management experts, and often include SIUE faculty specialists. Topics include:

– Persuasion without Power: Tools and techniques to help you influence others without having authority

– Harm or Harmony: How Project Manager’s effectively deal with people

– Project Accountability – Achievable, fun and effective

– What’s the noise? Common communications challenges in meetings and how to identify and address them

– AGILE Retrospectives

– Challenges of Scientific Projects

– Scalable Project Management

– Simplified Scheduling with Microsoft Project

– Implementing a Center of Excellence

– How Do I Manage My Project’s Scope Using Business Analysis?
