HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital completes new outpatient registration location construction

HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital leadership and registration colleagues gathered in the newly designed Outpatient Registration space for a blessing and walk through on July 9, 2026, a day before opening to patients on July 10. The new registration space is the first area completed in the campus’ $116 million transformation project. The department’s location is just inside the outpatient entrance allowing quick access for patients checking in for their appointments and walk-in testing.
Progress ongoing for $116 million investment project
HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital has announced the opening of its new outpatient registration area on July 11, 2026, a milestone in the hospital’s ongoing $116 million campus expansion and the first of many projects to come.
The new outpatient registration area, now located just inside the outpatient entrance, is where patients check in for their appointments and walk-in testing.
“This new registration space represents the first area completed in our campus transformation, and we couldn’t be more excited for what’s ahead,” said Chris Klay, president and CEO, HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and HSHS Southern Illinois Market. “We’re proud of the work that’s being done at our hospital to expand access and meet the healthcare needs of our area. We are grateful for the patients and support of our community during this time of growth and look forward to sharing many more milestones to come.”
The relocation of this service area increases patient access and efficiency of care in the first-floor area while adding more patient privacy. There will also be two self-check-in kiosks available for patients who want to skip the line.
In addition to Registration’s move, Surgical Home and lab draw stations also moved to the newly constructed area.
Construction will begin on the previous registration area in the following weeks which will be transformed into the entryway of the hospital’s new cafeteria on the first floor.
Construction also progresses throughout the rest of St. Elizabeth’s campus. On the hospital’s fifth floor, previously the location of the cafeteria and kitchen, construction continues on the addition of 32 inpatient rooms. Additionally, the hospital is expanding its Emergency Department, adding 8 new treatment rooms and an expanded waiting area.
On the northeast side of the hospital’s campus, construction continues on the new medical office building and outpatient surgical center, the future home of four operating suites and two procedure rooms for minor outpatient, same-day surgeries and procedures. The building will also include clinical space for medical specialties and physician offices and expanded diagnostic services including x-ray, CT scan, open MRI, bone density (DEXA) scan and mammography.
“It’s exciting to see these projects come to life as we continue investing in the future of our hospital and the communities we serve,” said Michael Janis, chief operating officer, HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. “These additions will help us continue to meet the growing needs of our patients and ensure access to high-quality care close to home.”
