Four generations: Mueller Furniture celebrates ‘Family Owned, Operated Business Day’
With only three percent of family-owned businesses reaching the fourth generation, Mueller Furniture & Mattress is proud to be an enduring and thriving legacy.
The fourth-generation, family-owned business was founded in 1927 by John Mueller. Back then, John was quick to lend a hand and let people pay him back gradually when money was tight.
Those same values established then are ones still deeply rooted in the store’s identity today.
“For nearly 100 years, we have been a company built on trust, loyalty and reliability,” Mueller Furniture & Mattress Owner Mark Mueller said. “Over the years, we have evolved with our AI room planner, virtual consultations and more, but we still remember and honor our store’s rich history. As a family-owned business, we understand the importance of fully committing to bringing our community quality American-made products and great customer service.”
Mueller emphasized that a business should be more than just a place to buy products, which led them to starting numerous initiatives that give back to the community.
Mueller Furniture has donated to local food pantries, held annual winter coat donation drives, hosted yearly sales contests where one employee receives $3,000 to donate to a charity of their choice and Mark and Viviana Mueller were named Philanthropists of the Year by the Child Advocacy Center of Northeast Missouri.
Additionally, Mueller sponsors local little league baseball teams, Special Olympics cheer and is the title sponsor of the annual Lake St. Louis fireworks show, while they support and donate to causes such as Faith Through Fire, Breast Cancer Patients and Survivors and The Kaufman Fund Veterans Organization.
“Since we have opened our doors, being involved in the community has always been at the heart of what we do,” Mueller said. “While we have grown since our inception as a small business in downtown Belleville, we remain deeply committed to upholding the same values that have defined us for nearly a century. We’re looking forward to passing down our work and our ideals to many more generations.”
