Seasoned M&A attorney Rob Winner joins UB Greensfelder

Rob Winner

UB Greensfelder LLP (UBG) recently announced the addition of seasoned corporate attorney Robert S. Winner to the firm’s Corporate Department. Winner brings more than 25 years of experience advising clients across a broad range of industries on mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, venture capital, private securities offerings, and a wide range of commercial transactions.

Winner joins UBG from Akerman LLP, where he built a nationally respected practice advising clients ranging from startups to Fortune 500 companies, including those in highly regulated industries. He has frequently served as outside general counsel and lead transaction counsel, guiding boards and executive teams through complex strategic decisions and regulatory challenges. His hands-on, business-savvy counsel has made him a trusted advisor to companies at all stages of growth.

“UB Greensfelder’s recent momentum following the merger made it an obvious choice when considering where to land and grow my practice,” said Winner. “The firm’s expanded platform and deep bench of talent create opportunities to better serve my clients, especially in fast-moving industries like cannabis, where businesses have many of the same legal needs as other industries, but with added complexity due to varied state regulations and unique tax and financing issues.”

Winner has advised clients across a variety of sectors, including manufacturing, transportation, logistics, renewable energy, and cannabis. He advises cannabis and cannabis-adjacent businesses in navigating the intricate legal, tax, and financing issues unique to the industry. With this significant industry experience, Winner will lead UBG’s expanded Cannabis Industry Group, which brings together attorneys from across the firm to meet growing client demands in this dynamic area.

“Rob’s corporate finance experience and cannabis industry practice are major assets to our clients,” said Kevin T. McLaughlin, UBG’s co-managing partner. “He understands the business complexities and unique challenges of this rapidly evolving legal landscape and brings the kind of practical, forward-thinking counsel our clients value.”

Winner is the second lateral attorney to join UBG in recent weeks, following Chris Pickett, who rejoined in St. Louis from Amazon, where he provided strategic legal guidance on employment mobility issues across international markets. Both attorneys join UBG on the heels of the one-year anniversary of the firm’s strategic merger, which has expanded its national platform and enhanced its ability to serve clients across key industries and markets.

“Our recent merger continues to attract top-tier talent like Rob and Chris Pickett, who recently rejoined us to expand our employee mobility law capabilities,” said Scott P. Kadish, UBG’s co-managing partner. “We’re building something special at UB Greensfelder, and we’re excited to see our vision resonate with such high-caliber attorneys.”
