Belleville selects Marshaun Warren as new superintendent

Dr. Marshaun Warren was selected to lead Belleville Township High School District 201 as its next superintendent by the Board of Education. Warren’s selection began on July 1, 2025.

“We are so excited to announce Dr. Warren as the next superintendent of BTHS 201, who will lead our district as a champion for innovation.” said Board President Mark Sauerwein. “Her experience, her energy and her vision to help every student achieve their best is the perfect fit.”

Warren will leverage over 20 years of unparalleled experience as an educator and administrator in her new role as Superintendent. Warren previously served as the BTHS 201 assistant superintendent where she had led the Human Resources operations since 2018.

“Dr. Warren has a proven track record of recruiting and retaining the most talented team of professionals in the region,” Sauerwein added. “Through her strategic approach, she has positioned BTHS 201 as the most desired district for dedicated teachers, faculty and staff. Because of this, she will hit the ground running in her new role to continue the growth of our district.”

Warren holds a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from St. Louis University. She was recognized by the St. Louis Business Journal in 2024 with its “Champion of Diversity and Inclusion Award.” She is also an adjunct professor at Maryville University and Webster University for doctoral studies in Education.

“We have a trailblazing team at BTHS 201 that has expanded educational opportunities for all our students at West, East and the CAVE in recent years,” said Warren. “I am excited to keep breaking new ground with inventive educational approaches and state of the art facilities to keep BTHS as the forerunner in secondary education in the region.”

Warren shared her vision at the Board meeting, citing the following top priorities as she took the reigns in July:

  • Ensure students are prepared to be globally competitive as they choose to enter the workforce, college or military.
  • Be a responsible financial steward in the operations of the
  • Effective community engagement to ensure the schools are meeting the needs of families, businesses and growth for the region.

Warren and her husband André live in Swansea with their two sons, Anthony, a senior at Belleville East High School and André II, a first grader at Wolf Branch Elementary School.

“I am so proud to live, work and send my children to the BTHS school system,” Warren said. “Excellent schools are what make a community strong, attractive for families and investment by private business. I am so fortunate to be part of what makes Belleville a great place to raise my family.”

    As retired teacher and past president numerous times of AFT LOCAL #434 , US ?of AFT
    As a past president many times of AFT local #434, I congratulate you on your appointment to supertindent of District #201. I, too, was new to the area and found that Belleville folks could be parochial as well as cosmopolitan. I truly am hopeful you will be as thankful as I am that I spent my life in that community.
