Southwestern Illinois College (SWIC) has announced it will launch an intercollegiate football program, with its inaugural season set for Fall 2027.

The team will compete as an Independent in Division I as part of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

The addition of football reflects SWIC’s ongoing commitment to expanding opportunities for student-athletes, enhancing campus life and strengthening community connections across the district.

“Football will create new opportunities for students while building school spirit and connections throughout our region,” says Michael Juenger, director of Athletics.

Planning for the program will begin immediately, including the hiring of a head football coach to lead development, recruiting and operations. SWIC anticipates adding additional support positions as the program grows, with the goal of building a team of which the community can be proud.

SWIC’s football team will play at “The Campus,” home of the Southwestern Illinois Justice & Workforce Development, creating a central hub for game-day experiences and community engagement.

Additional details, including coaching staff and recruiting information, will be announced as they become available.
