The East St. Louis Facility is the second-largest treatment facility in the state of Illinois, operating at 56 million gallons per day (MGD).  This project includes design and construction of proposed improvements required by new Illinois Environmental Protection Agency requirements.
p07 Gonzalez Companies    IAW, a wholly owned subsidiary of American Water, is the largest investor-owned water utility in the state, providing high-quality and reliable water services to approximately 1.2 million people.
Gonzalez Companies is providing engineering and construction management services for the East St. Louis Facility upgrades.  The facility upgrades include finish water clear wells consisting of two, 5-MG (million gallon) circular pre-stressed concrete storage tanks, which will be approximately 140 feet in diameter.
Additionally, a high service pump station consisting of six horizontal split-case high service pumps rated for 15 MGD will be added.  Space for four vertical turbine transfer pumps with a firm capacity of 60 MGD is included in the project design as well.
“Gonzalez Companies is proud to be part of such an important project that serves over 300,000 customers in the St. Louis Metro East,” said R. Patrick Judge, P.E., Gonzalez managing principal.
The U.S. EPA reports that the nation’s water utilities will need to make more than $384 billion in infrastructure investments by 2030 to ensure public health.  This project is an example of the continuous investments and improvements that are being made to help meet the demands of today’s customers while planning for the future.
