Spotlight on Southwestern Illinois: Banking and Finance

Carrie Hanks, Vice President & Senior Trust Officer, First Mid-Illinois Bank & Trust

Opportunities for women in banking, specifically in the trust division, exist today more than ever before, according to Carrie Hanks, vice president and senior trust officer at First Mid-Illinois Bank & Trust.

Hanks has spent her 25-plus years in personal and institutional trust services. “My entire trust career has been in the metro St. Louis area,” said Hanks, who works from First Mid’s Highland and Maryville offices and serves clients across Southwestern Illinois. She is one of more than two dozen professionals in the institution’s trust division. Hanks is responsible for providing trust administration, estate and tax services, investment services and retirement planning to First Mid clients.
“First Mid has had a strong trust customer base for a long period of time,” she said, noting that First Mid — which has been in business since 1865 — has a longstanding track record of assisting multiple generations in and around the region. “Our mission is to provide the best customer experience to our banking and trust clients and to contribute to the well-being of our community.”
Each trust client is unique, according to Hanks — not only with financial needs, but also in the wish to continue passing down wealth to those who follow. “Our trust products and services, along with First Mid’s diversified line of banking products and services, cater to the specific needs and expectations of each client. We also partner with local attorneys and accountants to provide the most comprehensive service possible.”
Prior to joining First Mid, Hanks worked as a trust officer with Northern Trust Co. in St. Louis and served as vice president and financial management officer at The Bank of Edwardsville. She completed the requirements to become a Certified Retirement Services Professional and has attained her Certified Trust and Financial Advisor designation.
Hanks’ support of the local community is evident in her role as a member of the Highland Rotary Club. She is a lifelong Metro East resident.
