From late-night holiday parties to Christmas cookies, sometimes your skin feel the impacts of the hustle and bustle that comes with the season. Kristen M. Jacobs, MD, aesthetic physician, best-selling author and owner of Ooh La La Spa, Anti-Aging & Wellness is encouraging people to enjoy this time of year but take the time to create a plan to keep their skin healthy.
“A breakout or dull skin can be the first sign when you are starting to feel stress,” said Dr. Jacobs. “The first thing I always suggest is that my patients remove their makeup before going to bed each night, even if your holiday happy hour went past your bedtime. Sleeping with your face makeup on can clog your pores, cause breakouts and irritate your complexion. I also suggest simplifying your routine to help minimize the stress and make it easier to take care of your skin.”
Dr. Jacobs suggests if you are heading out of town to keep it simple by always packing a cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen. If traveling somewhere warm or even a snowy place, it is essential to bring the right sunscreen. She recommends people continue using a mineral-based, physical sunscreen every day and to prioritize drinking water during travel to help with hydration.
“It can be tough, but this busy season is also a time to prioritize sleep,” said Dr. Jacobs. “The blood flow to skin increases during sleep when collagen is rebuilt, which can reduce wrinkles and age spots. If you aim to sleep seven to nine hours a night, you will wake up looking more refreshed with moisturized skin that’s able to protect and heal itself.”
Dr. Jacobs also suggests stopping into Ooh La La Spa, Anti-Aging & Wellness to get a chemical peel or Diamond Glow facial, to help you feel your best before your family gatherings.
