Mathis, Marifian & Richter, Ltd., honored with ISBA John C. McAndrews Pro Bono Service Award

The law firm of Mathis, Marifian & Richter, Ltd. (MM&R) has been named by the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA) as the recipient of the 2022-2023 John C. McAndrews Pro Bono Service Award in the law firm category.
According to the ISBA, the John C. McAndrews Award was introduced “to honor the extraordinary commitment of individuals, bar associations, or law firm/corporate legal departments for providing free legal services to the income eligible in Illinois or expanding the availability of legal services to the income eligible in Illinois.”
Rock Island attorney John C. McAndrews’ pro bono efforts began as early as the 1970s when he developed and directed the Legal Aid Services of Rock Island County. McAndrews also served as chair of the ISBA Committee on Delivery of Legal Services. According to the ISBA, while on the committee, McAndrews was an integral force pushing for the establishment of the Illinois Pro Bono Center after a study revealed that “about a million unresolved civil matters involving low-income residents were unmet each year.”
