According to a report by Reuters, unionized workers at Phillips 66 Wood River Refinery in Roxana will vote on a final contract proposal with the refinery this evening (Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2023).
According to union officials, about 370 operators in the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 399 will be voting on whether to accept the proposal.
The Roxana refinery is a 356,000-barrel-per-day facility, and the union has been in federal negotiations with the refinery since early this summer. The current union contract has been extended through 5 p.m. on Sept. 15, 2023. Union representatives have indicated that, if workers do not ratify the contract this evening, the union would vote next week on whether to strike.
A company proposal was rejected earlier this summer as representatives sought additional benefits for holiday and vacation hours and pay, among other benefits.
The Reuters report indicated further that a company spokesperson had said, “Phillips 66 values our good relationship with the union, and we are committed to engaging in good-faith bargaining,” adding that it believes the company’s offer satisfies that goal.
