Organizers of Glen Carbon Homecoming on June 16, 17 announce final plans, sponsors
The Village of Glen Carbon’s upcoming homecoming celebration, “There’s No Place Like Homecoming”, marks its 131st year with carnival rides, great music, food and fun for the entire family.
Happening Father’s Day Weekend on Friday, June 16 and Saturday, June 17, this event draws a crowd of residents and visitors alike. Plans have been finalized and a variety of vendors have also signed up to be a part of this community-wide event happening on Main Street in Glen Carbon, Ill.
The festivities kick-off Friday night at 5 p.m. with delicious food and refreshing drinks. This year’s homecoming includes more food options than last year, serving up specialty burgers, Mexican fare, Mediterranean, BBQ, corn dogs and more. Smoothies, funnel cakes and other sweets will also be on site.
Beginning at 7 p.m., a fan-favorite band Dirty Muggs will hit the stage until 11 p.m. Attendees can listen and dance to great music while their kids enjoy carnival rides, games and Mission Ready Laser Tag. The Axe Company with their new mobile trailer will also be on site both nights offering prizes and specials.
Carnival pre-sale tickets are now available at Village Hall during the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sheets of 24 tickets are $18 in advance and $24 during the event.
On Saturday, the Covered Bridge 5k and Fun Run happens at 8 a.m. This run is part of the Triple Crown Race Series, highlighting the most popular runs in the area. Final Lap Management is timing the event, sponsored by CNB Bank and Trust. Integrity Spine and Joint are sponsoring the music. Learn more at https://finallapracing.com/.
Evening activities on Saturday begin at 5 p.m. with a Main Street parade that launches at New Bethel UMC and continues to School Street. This year’s parade Grand Marshal will be Debra Pitts. Pitts was selected based on her outstanding acts of volunteerism in our community.
The line-up for entertainment continues on through Saturday, with music rocking the stage from headlining act Johnny Holzum & Well Hungarians® at 7 p.m. under the bridge. A full evening of rides, games, refreshments, food and more can be enjoyed, along with a fireworks display later that evening.
To assist with parking options, shuttle service will be available both nights between Village Hall and The Wooden Nickel beginning at 5 p.m. and concluding at 11 p.m.
