Twentieth Judicial Circuit receives technology modernization grant worth nearly $75K

Chief Judge Andrew J. Gleeson recently announced that Illinois’ Twentieth Judicial Circuit has been awarded a Technology Modernization Grant in the amount of $74,699.91.

This grant will be utilized to upgrade the computer systems of the Judicial Department of St. Clair County.

Chief Judge Gleeson said he is grateful for the untiring efforts of his staff, especially Assistant Trial Court Administrator and Technology Supervisor Maggie Smith and Trial Comi Administrator Mary Berneking. “Their professional and dogged approach to executing these grant applications has greatly benefited the courts and court operations of St. Clair County,” said Gleeson.

Smith was equally upbeat about the grant. “This grant will provide updated technology needs for multiple areas of the court system in St. Clair County, and is vital in assisting us with going into the future of court technology,” Smith said. “It will help us serve the public better.”

This number seems too low to be news-worthy. Did someone leave off a 0 or something? $75k, that is great because it can go to buy a few computers–maybe one junior IT person can be hired. But will $75k really “provide updated technology needs for multiple areas of the court system in St. Clair County, and is vital in assisting us with going into the future of court technology?” Again, any money given to update technology is great, but it seems that maybe there is a typo because this court system spends $75k in about 1 hour on a daily basis.
