SIUE Dept. of Industrial Engineering to host monthly orientation programs through June

The Department of Industrial Engineering at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville will be hosting an orientation focusing on the School’s industrial engineering program at 10 a.m. on the first Saturday of the month, beginning now through June. The orientation will introduce prospective students and their families to the field of industrial engineering and the opportunities available at SIUE.

“The field of industrial engineering has been playing a vital role in the optimization of complex systems and processes in various industries,” said Sinan Onal, Ph.D., associate professor and chair of the Department of Industrial Engineering. “The orientation program will provide a comprehensive understanding of the curriculum and career prospects for the industrial engineering discipline, as well as the resources and support provided by the University to ensure student success.”

SIUE offers the following degrees in industrial engineering, a bachelor of science, which is an accredited program by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, a master of science and a doctor of philosophy.

“Our industrial engineering programs prepare students for careers in the design, implementation, and improvement of systems that integrate people, materials, equipment, energy, and information,” said Onal. “Students have the opportunity to participate in cooperative education, internships and research projects, which provide them with hands-on experience and the chance to apply their knowledge in real-world settings.”

During the orientation, prospective students and their families will hear from current industrial engineering students, faculty, alumni and industry professionals. There will also be a tour of the department’s laboratories, concluding with a question-and-answer session.
