Annual Eagle Ice Festival returns to Alton on Saturday, Jan. 7

Activities officially kick off the 2023 Eagle Watching Season in Southwest Illinois

The annual Alton Eagle Ice Festival returns for the 2023 season on Saturday, Jan. 7.

Meet a live American Bald Eagle during a free meet and greet at FLOCK Food Truck Park, 210 Ridge St., Alton, along with live ice carving, food trucks, fire pits, face painting and live music.

Enjoy guided eagle-watching hikes at the Audubon Center at Riverlands, 301 Riverlands Way, West Alton, Mo.

And, spot resident nesting bald eagles at the National Great Rivers Museum, #2 Lock & Dam Way, Alton.

All events take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

There are also two guided Eagle Watching Shuttle Tours available which begin and end at the Alton Visitor Center, 200 Piasa St., Alton. Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased on the Great Rivers & Routes website, https://www.riversandroutes.com/things-to-do/buy-tickets/

Eagle Fest is held annually to mark the return of American Bald Eagles to Southwest Illinois. Each year, hundreds of eagles flock to the region for the relatively warmer weather and open waters.
