SIU SDM offers free dental services on Veterans Care Day Nov. 10

SIU SDM to offer free dental care for veterans.

Registration is now open for the Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine’s (SDM) fifth annual Veteran’s Care Day being held Thursday, Nov. 10 at the SDM’s main clinic in Building 263, 2800 College Ave., Alton, Ill.

“We are proud to offer our services to benefit as many veterans as possible,” said SIU SDM Director of Community Dentistry Katie Kosten, DMD. “Not all veterans have access to extensive dental care, so we are excited to once again bring this opportunity to our community and show our gratitude for veterans’ service.”

Last year, more than 100 veterans received free dental care during the annual event. Over the last four years, $180,000 of free dental care has been provided to veterans.

Services include, but are not limited to, cleanings, x-rays, fillings and extractions.

To best manage patient care, appointments are required for the event. To register, call (618) 474-7200.

SIU School of Dental Medicine students manage approximately 35,000 patient visits each year at patient clinics in Alton and East St. Louis. In addition, students offer oral health treatment, screenings and education to more than 10,000 people annually through a wide variety of off-campus community outreach events. These opportunities provide students the training they need to graduate and become highly skilled dentists. The School of Dental Medicine is a vital oral health care provider for residents of southern and central Illinois, and the St. Louis metropolitan region.
