St. Clair County Transit District will offer its Flyer service at Scott Air Force Base beginning on Aug. 1 as a replacement for the fixed route #3521 Main Base Shuttle.
To help meet the changing needs of its customer base, the St. Clair County Transit District (SCCTD) will begin offering the SCCTD Flyer Service at Scott Air Force Base (SAFB) beginning Aug. 1, 2022. The service will replace the fixed route #3521 Main Base Shuttle, which is being discontinued on Sept. 1 as part of planned route changes. The new offering is a flexible, on-demand, shared-ride service. A ride can be scheduled by calling (618) 800-6884 or through the TransLoc app, which provides an estimated pick-up time, real-time ride tracking and an alert in advance of arrival.
The service zone for the SCCTD Flyer at Scott Air Force Base extends from Golf Course and Hangar roads on the north, to Hangar Road on the east, to South Drive on the south and the Shiloh-Scott Metrolink Transit Center on the west. It can connect users to the Shiloh-Scott Transit Center – where the MetroLink and the #12 O’Fallon-Fairview Heights MetroBus can be accessed – as well as the MidAmerica Airport Shuttle and key areas within SAFB, including Shiloh and Patriots Landing Housing, the pharmacy, med clinic, Exchange and Commissary.
The SCCTD Flyer is available from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays. The cost is $3 per one-way trip anywhere within the service zone. Those with a Senior Pass or Benefit Access Pass (BAP) can go anywhere within the same parameters for $1. No transfers are accepted. Fare can be purchased through the TransLoc app and at Ticket Vending Machines at Metro Transit Centers in Illinois. No cash fares will be accepted.
“We are continually working to meet the ever-changing mobility needs of passengers,” said Herb Simmons, Chair of St. Clair County Transit District’s Board of Trustees. “We understand the importance of providing public transit access points around key destination areas. It is key to building ridership and we feel the SCCTD Flyer will be a great fit for those at Scott Air Force Base.
The SCCTD Flyer services is also available in East St. Louis, Fairmont City, Brooklyn and Belleville. Other cities, including Kansas City, Mo., Sacramento, Calif., and Arlington, Texas, have implemented similar programs in an effort to offer more flexible service in areas where larger bus vehicles are not needed.
