Local Realtor Association holds recycling event benefiting PCs for People

The members of the Realtor Association of Southwestern Illinois, in conjunction with PCs for People and The File Room, are having a free, community recycling event on Wednesday, May 18.

PCs for People will handle the electronics recycling, while The File Room will take care of shredding.

The event will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. at 1124 Hartman Lane, Shiloh, in the parking lot.

Founded in 1998, PCs for People is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization centered around getting low-cost computers and affordable broadband internet into the homes of low-income individuals. The organization has provided 180,000 people with home computers, connected 165,000 people to low-cost internet, and recycled over 8 million of pounds of electronics.

PCs for People has a regional operation in Belleville.

At last year’s event, RASI collected 11 full-size boxes of electronics. “I know we will be able to help a lot of people and keep the electronics out of the garbage,” said Raffi Mikaelian, PCs for People account manager.
