Southern Illinois businesses invited to presentation on export challenges

Small businesses in Southern Illinois are being invited to participate in the eighth session of a free virtual roundtable series on exporting.

The Illinois SBDC International Trade Center at SIUE, in partnership with the Southwest Illinois Trade and Investment Council, has created the forum to discuss export challenges and opportunities, where participants can bounce ideas off of regional exporting peers, and develop solutions to remain successful in selling goods and services to international markets.

The latest in the series features a 90-minute Zoom connection. “The Importance of Export Compliance” is planned for current and potential exporters. The presentation will be Thursday, Oct. 28, from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

This month’s presenter will provide insight on potential violations and penalties and how to instruct your team should a B.I.S (Bureau of Industry and Security-U.S. Department of Commerce) audit becomes a reality.

Speaker Cortney Morgan, partner, Husch Blackwell, Washington, D.C., counsels clients on compliance with the Export Administration Regulations, International Traffic in Arms Regulations and economic sanctions programs administered by the Office of Foreign Assets Control, as well as anti-boycott programs administered by the U.S. Departments of Commerce and Treasury.

Moderator Tom Dustman, international sales director of Sunnen Products, an international sales executive with 25+ years of experience who serves on the National District Export Council for the Midwest region.

For questions and to register, send an email to the ITC at International-Trade-Center@siue.edu with contact information for each member of your organization who will be connecting with us (name, company name, email address, phone number). You will be receiving a confirmation message with a direct link to connect via Zoom.

Registration deadline is Tuesday, Oct. 26.
